EN9 is a steel grade in the BS 970 standard. BS 970 is one steel specification for brought steel for mechanical and allied engineering purposes. It specifies requirements for carbon and carbon manganese, alloy, free-cutting, and stainless steels normally supplied in the bright cold-finished condition. It is only applicable to steel supplied in straight lengths.
EN9 steel materials, especially round steel bars, are used for engineering steel, like gears, shafts, bolts, etc.
EN9 carbon steel will be less expensive than EN19 alloy steel due to differences in chemical composition and mechanical properties. It is, however, dependent on the sizes. For example, large-diameter EN9 carbon steel might be more expensive than small-diameter EN19 round steel bars.
